Our commercial behind the wheel programs are structured in full compliance with FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations and California Vehicle Code § 15250.1.
Instruction focuses strictly on hands-on vehicle operation across our private maneuver range and public roadways, providing the verified driving time and California DMV DL 1236 certification required to qualify for the California commercial drive exam.
ELDT Class A Behind the Wheel
Public Roads & Private Range
Cost: $2,500
Program Focus: Hands-on training for Class A commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers.
Training Includes:
Vehicle Inspection: Engine, cab, air brakes, connections, suspension, frame, and coupling systems.
Private Range Skills: Straight-line backing, offset backing, and 90-degree alley docking.
Road Driving: Shifting, vehicle control, lane changes, city and freeway driving, commercial turns, hazard awareness, and railroad crossings.
California Compliance: Meets the 15-hour minimum behind-the-wheel requirement, including at least 10 hours on public roads, under CVC § 15250.1.
Certificates & Documents:
San Diego Truck Driving School completion certificate.
ELDT training reported to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR).
California DMV Form DL 1236, required to schedule and take the commercial driving test.
ELDT Class B Behind the Wheel
Public Roads & Private Range
Cost: $2,500
Program Focus: Hands-on training for straight trucks, dump trucks, and large box trucks.
Training Includes:
Vehicle Inspection: Engine fluids and belts, in-cab air brake test, steering, suspension, wheels, tires, brakes, chassis, and exterior lights.
Private Range Skills: Straight-line backing, offset backing, and alley docking for rigid-frame commercial vehicles.
Road Driving: Street positioning, stopping distances, intersection safety, pedestrian awareness, commercial turns, and highway driving.
California Compliance: Meets the 15-hour minimum behind-the-wheel requirement, including at least 10 hours on public roads, under CVC § 15250.1.
